Remembering Israel’s First Astronaut: Ilan Ramon

Ramon was killed along with his other crew members during the re-entry of the Columbia space shuttle into Earth’s atmosphere, on February 1, 2003. The son of two Holocaust survivors, Ramon proudly represented Israel, taking with him symbolic Jewish items: the Israeli flag, the Israeli Declaration of Independence, and a miniature Torah scroll which survived the Holocaust. Ramon’s bravery, sacrifice, and love of Israeli live on, serving as an inspiration for future generations.
