A talk with Dan Shechtman

In this clip (3:53), hear about how Dan Shechtman, Israeli winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, came to discover quasicrystals, as well as the vehement opposition he faced from the international science community along the way. His discovery, now widely-accepted, has opened up new fields of scientific study. His advice to young aspiring scientists is to “have an observing eye” and to “look for something that seems impossible” or “that cannot be.”
