Begin on Shared Nobel Prize with Sadat

Hear Menachem Begin‘s public response to having been announced as one of the two winners of 1978’s Nobel Peace Prize in this news clip (1:08) from the AP Archive. Begin was awarded the prestigious honor together with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat for the Camp David Accords negotiations which ultimately led to the signing of the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in 1979. In Begin’s words, though, “the real prize is peace itself.”
